"Vegetables are healthy and should be part of the diet" – that's what we hear throughout our lives, but new research in nutrition science shows that some of them are not so healthy. We've prepared a list of the 10 most unhealthy vegetables. In the first part of this article, you can read about the rest of the vegetables on the list.

Cherry tomatoes: a member of the nightshade family

Cherry tomatoes are treated as a great snack and we know that they are rich in lycopene, and tomatoes are famous for their ability to guard against osteoporosis and prostate cancer. Anyway, they belong to nightshades and it means they can enlarge inflammatory risks, especially within joints. People who are prone to arthritis or joint problems should eat fewer tomatoes.

Cherry tomatoes are also included on the list of 12 dirty foods with approximately 35 pesticide residues.

Cucumber: may have synthetic wax on their surface

Cucumbers are very refreshing, yet these veggies are also on the dirty dozen list. Like celery, cucumbers have 35 pesticide residues and most of them are destroying for hormones. Neurotoxins are the other highest pesticide residues. Non-organic cucumbers, having a sizeable level of pesticides, can pose a problem to your body.

Conventional cucumbers are also full of synthetic wax which is usually produced from chemical substances. In order to avoid synthetic wax and pesticide residue, choose organic cucumber.

Celery: notoriously nutrition-less

Many people say that celery hardly has some nutritional benefits, a simple vessel for dips, and not much else. Despite this vegetable having a huge amount of fiber, and according to the latest research celery possesses strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, this veggie is on the dirty dozen list as well.

The USDA found that celery contains shocking 68 pesticide residues, most of which can disrupt hormones. It's high time to take a closer look at organic celery.

Kale: a well-known superfood

Even though this vegetable is a local superfood, deemed to be one of the most nutritious and has plenty of healing properties, anyway it has also landed itself on the dirty dozen list.

In accordance with Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, conventional kale has organophosphate insecticides that are extremely toxic to our nervous system. Kale is considered to be goitrogenic, which means that it can result in or provoke goiters. Actually, it can affect people who have issues with their thyroid. The goitrogenic nature of kale should not be a problem for healthy people.

Kale, like eggplant and spinach, has oxalates and consumption should be limited a bit if you have gallbladder issues or an untreated kidney.

Squash: rich in minerals… and pesticides

Summer squash is shockingly full of various vitamins, minerals and fiber but still, it's included in the dirty dozen plus list.

Summer squash like kale, is contaminated with organophosphate insecticides and according to the USDA, has 41 pesticide residues, most of them are hormone disruptive and poisonous to bees.

Besides, it's one more vegetable that's on the oxalates list and can cause kidney stones, so those people with kidney issues should take this into consideration.
