From childhood we are taught to eat vegetables, but what if I tell you that some of them aren’t that healthy for us? Even though I give you a list of unhealthier vegetables, a veggie from the earth is a whole food that has lots of minerals and vitamins and has extraordinary healing characteristics but sometimes there exist healthier alternatives.

Potato: more starch less benefit

Though white potatoes actually have health advantages, some nutritionists say that there is much more starch in them, compared to green rivals, and potatoes lose this battle by their nutrition facts.

Moreover, spuds are on the Environmental Working Group's Dirty Dozen list — and are one of the vegetables that contain the highest levels of pesticide, which is damaging to one of the hardest-working organs - the liver and nervous system.

Potatoes are part of the nightshade family, vegetables that may have alkaloids, which effect our joint, digestive and nerve-muscle function.

Corn: a genetically modified vegetable

Corn is also one of the main foods on the unhealthy list. It's served grilled in summer, popped in the cinema, added into salads and even breakfast cereals and syrup are made of corn. What’s wrong with all that?

The Canadian Biotechnology Action Network found that more than 80 percent of the grain corn in Canada is genetically modified. Such corn can cause hormonal changes as well as changes within the digestive system and be a reason for sensitivities.

Actually, corn is one of the most typical food allergens in North America but still, cows are still fed with it, to fatten them up quickly and help produce marble meat.

Bell peppers: limit the consumption if you have joint issues

Many North Americans are suggested to have an inflammatory state, which is one of the main forerunners of heart issues, diabetes and cancer. Even if the inflammation is a result of heavily refined or processed food consuming, genetics and stress, nightshades like bell peppers may aggravate the conditions.

Peppers have solanine and alkaloid, which can cause disorder of nerve function and lead to convulsing, trembling or spasm. Bell peppers also give rise to joint health issues.

These veggies are also not good for people who suffer from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, or the ones with any joint problems.

Eggplant: rich in oxalates

Eggplants belong to the nightshade family as well and contain the highest levels of solanine among all of this family. Eggplants are not recommended for the ones who have serious joint problems or chronic inflammation.

These purple veggies contain oxalates, a natural substance, that may provoke kidney stones. People who have gallbladder or kidney issues or are subjected to stones should not consume them.

Conventional spinach: pesticides danger

Conventional spinach means non-organic and is included on the unhealthiest vegetable list as well. Mind that spinach is full of vitamin K and A and has anti-cancer characteristics, conventional spinach contains one of the highest levels of pesticides. The USDA Pesticide Data Program found that spinach has more than 48 pesticide residues which increase the risk of containing carcinogens, neurotoxins and hormone disrupting.

Spinach also has purines and oxalates, which can lead to kidney and gout stones. And of course, people who have kidney problems should also refuse it.
